For computer science courses, students should have a laptop computer that is running the latest version of either Apple macOS, 微软视窗系统, or a Unix-like operating system. 工程类Curriculum, students will often need to work in a Windows environment (non-Windows users may need additional resources, 比如Parallels). We recommend a mid-range to upper-end computer system. Our courses are rigorous 和 we want to avoid the frustrations that come with bargain computers.

Our students report that it is a big benefit to have an external mouse 和 reasonably-sized display monitor in their dorm rooms, but this is not a requirement.

大多数chrome笔记本, ipad, 和 other tablets will not work because they do not allow you to install the proper 发展 tools or only provide limited functionality. A few highly skilled students have managed to get by with a combination of a high-end Chromebook 和 the desktop computers that are available 24/7 in our computer science 和 engineering labs; however, this setup is discouraged.

Computer Science Sample Courses

CSC 104: Fundamentals of Programming

This course covers the basic principles of computer programming 和 algorithm design using the C# programming language. The class addresses basic language syntax, 分支, 循环, 异常, I/O, 字符串处理, 最佳实践, 和 tools for writing quality computer programs. It also introduces the process of turning a program that was written in a high-level language into an intermediate language 和 how the operating system then loads 和 executes it. This course introduces contemporary web design. Students will learn basic HTML 和 CSS for building static web pages. The course will include JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, 和 JSON to build an interactive website. Students will also learn about responsive web design 和 user experience concepts.

CSC 210: Introduction to Operating Systems

Julie Melberg

Professor Julie Melberg joined the Concordia mathematics faculty in 2010. Professor Melberg enjoys teaching mathematics at Concordia University Irvine, teaching Core Mathematics classes as well as courses for the Mathematics 和 Computer Science majors. Her teaching 和 research focus on inquiry-based learning 和 encouraging students to develop life-long thinking skills.

Professor Melberg enjoys teaching mathematics at Concordia University Irvine, teaching Core Mathematics classes as well as courses for the Mathematics 和 Computer Science majors. Professor Joshua Tallman joined the Concordia University faculty in 2019 as part of the Computer Science Department. Professor Tallman has 15+ years of experience working as a programmer 和 analyst in the field of computer security. He has held positions within the Department of Defense working in Maryl和, 德国, 和英国, as well as working as an independent contractor for Dragos, 公司., a company specializing in security for Industrial Control Systems.
